NOTE– Before I can massage your dog you will need to obtain a Veterinary Consent Form​ from your vet.  Active Clinical Canine Massage Therapy acknowledges the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 and Exemption Order 2015 by NEVER working upon a dog without gaining prior Veterinary approval. 

First Initial Appointment (Full Consultation)

Will be for approximately 90 minutes and includes:

  • Review of medical history and presenting condition. (Including Vet Consent Form)
  • Discussion of relevant aspects of activities of daily living e.g. diet, exercise routines.
  • Gait assessment.(How your dog is walking, trotting etc).
  • Static posture analysis. (How your dog is standing).
  • Muscular Palpation (whole body superficial muscular assessment).What I’m looking for is injury, pain, soreness, strains, scarring, trigger points “knots”, tightness, heat and cold.

This also enables me to become acquainted with your dog, and for them to become comfortable with me prior to massage treatment.

  • 45 – 60 minutes massage treatment.
  • Full explanation of findings, treatment.
  • Advice on the initial stages of post massage. After care of your dog, ‘Dos & Donts’ between massage sessions and beyond all tailored to your dog’s individual  needs.

If an issue is identified that requires further investigation, best practice is followed, and your dog will be referred back to their veterinary surgeon with an explanation of by concerns.

Subsequent Sessions

Last approximately 1 hour. Consisting  of:

  • Discussion on how your dog has been since last treatment.
  • Gait, Posture analysis.
  • Palpation
  • Massage treatment.

At the end of your dogs  course of treatment a written report will be forwarded to your Veterinary Surgeon to detail findings and other communications as required. We work best practice and so in the unlikely event that there are no improvements after the 3rd session, I will not continue to massage but will refer you back to your Vet for further investigation. 

Can be arranged at intervals based on the individual dog’s requirements and client preference.  This may be for a sports/agility competitor or for a senior dog to support conditions such as osteoarthritis, hip/elbow dysplasia or a neurological condition such as CDRM.

Your dog will be assessed individually, typically between 1 & 3 sessions within a three to five week period.

  • Initial Consultation.
  • Follow On Sessions.
  • Maintenance Sessions – If required see above.

*PLEASE NOTE – There is no travel charge if the distance to your home address is within a 15-mile radius. Over 15 miles there is a reasonable charge to be agreed at the time of booking.  There will be a reduced mileage fee for treating more than one dog within one visit.

**The costs of your dog’s treatment may be covered by your insurers you will need to check this out yourself.

This is the body’s way of restoring its natural balance and healing itself after treatment.

Your dog may feel worse for the first 24-72 hours and there may be an increase in their symptoms as the body looks to cleanse itself of impurities, toxins and muscular imbalances. This is a perfectly normal reaction and the symptoms may vary between mild and severe. All dogs react differently.

Symptoms Include:

  • Increased thirst.
  • Reduced appetite.
  • Lethargy, increase in sleeping and very quiet
  • Restlessness or Insomnia.
  • An increase in joint or muscle pain (you may see lameness or stiffness for 48 hours)
  • Frequent urination, possibly diarrhoea, nausea or digestive upsets
  • Runny nose.
  • Fever, cold or flu-like symptoms.

Alternatively, it can cause:

  • Playfulness and active.
  • Increased energy levels.
  • The ‘feel good’ factor.

You can help support your dog through the Healing Crisis, by encouraging :

  • Plenty of rest.
  • Keeping your dog quiet.
  • Constant access to fresh water.
  • Increased access to toileting area. 
  • Light meals.
  • Reduced exercise for duration of Healing Crisis.
