My name is Deborah Smith (Deb)

I decided upon a career change after evaluating my life and looking at what I really enjoyed. Answer: My passion for dogs. I have owned Border Collies and I have participated in agility and obedience with them. I was also brought up with Jack Russell Terriers. All of my life I have been involved in many sports and acquired various injuries, hence a frequent visitor for many years to a human sports therapist. Hence the idea to become a Canine Massage Therapist, after all, dogs suffer with similar soft tissue issues/injuries/conditions as humans.

Hence a logical career idea and a brilliant opportunity to make positive changes not only my life but to the lives of any dogs needing a massage to improve quality of life. Not forgetting the peace of mind brought to the owners too!

I am a Professional Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner, and the proud owner of Active Clinical Canine Massage Therapy. I trained, and successfully completed the 2 year “Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner Programme” at the prestigious Canine Massage Centre under the tutelage of Natalie Lenton. The course covers anatomy and physiology of the dog and encompasses over 50 massage techniques using 4 disciplines of massage;

• Swedish Massage.
• Deep Tissue Massage.
• Direct and Indirect Myofascial Release.
• Remedial Sports Massage
• Along with the ‘Lenton Method®’.

The programme is externally Accredited by LANTRA Awards who are recognised by the regulatory bodies Ofqual, SQA and Qualification Wales.

I am a member of the Canine Massage Guild the professional body of Canine Massage Therapists. As a member of the  Guild, I am committed to completing a minimum of 25hrs CPD (Continuing Professional Development) per year.
